When the Majority is Oppressed!

I found this emotional 10 minutes short about a world where men are subject to sexism. It's titled Majorité Opprimée, translation, Oppressed Majority. Synopsis reads "On what seems to be just another ordinary day, a man is exposed to sexism and sexual violence in a society ruled by women."




If this video makes you uncomfortable, understand women go through this every single day. It's okay to be uncomfortable. I was.

Here are some domestic violence facts from Safe Horizon 

• One in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime.
• Women experience more than 4 million physical assaults and rapes because of their partners, and men are victims of nearly 3 million physical assaults.
• Women ages 20 to 24 are at greatest risk of becoming victims of domestic violence.
• Every year, 1 in 3 women who is a victim of homicide is murdered by her current or former partner.
• Every year, more than 3 million children witness domestic violence in their homes.
• Domestic violence is most likely to occur between 6 pm and 6 am.
• More than 60 percent of domestic violence incidents happen at home.
• According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families.
• Domestic violence contributes to poor health for many survivors.  For example, chronic conditions like heart disease or gastrointestinal disorders can become more serious due to domestic violence. 
• Domestic violence costs more than $37 billion a year in law enforcement involvement, legal work, medical and mental health treatment, and lost productivity at companies.

And domestic violence is just one of the sexist things women face each day. There are also genital mutilation, gender pay gap, forced marriage, work discrimination, unpaid work etc.  Help change the facts. Speak up, speak out, and make a difference!
